Blurb: Jodi knows that any slip-ups made by the Ophi--a special group of necromancers born under the 13th sign of the zodiac--will fall on her shoulders... and that Hades is just waiting for them to screw up so he can wipe out the Ophi line. Unfortunately, Jodi has only convinced one Ophi to join her school: A hot guy named Chase who jeopardizes her relationship with Alex. Jodi loves Alex, but Chase can enhance her powers with just a touch--making her stronger than any Ophi has ever been. Her mixed emotions send her powers surging out of control, and the dead start rising without her conscious summoning--exactly what Hades doesn't want! If she chooses Alex over Chase, she may lose the battle to Hades, leading the Ophi race to extinction. If she chooses Chase, she might be able to stop Hades for good but lose everything else. Jodi needs to figure things out fast--because death is stalking her at every turn.

Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

  Posted by Savanna
  Finished Date: 4/30/2013
  Source: Bought
  Format: Paperback
  Pages:384

  Blurb:
Fans of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series will be drawn to Wendy Higgins’s sexy, thrilling Sweet Evil trilogy.

Sweet Peril, the second book in this hot YA trilogy, focuses on the battle between light and dark, good and evil, within Anna Whitt, the child of a guardian angel mother and a demon father. Anna promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a claim. Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. And all the while there’s gorgeous bad-boy Kaidan Rowe, the son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.
Anna discovers it is her fate to banish demons from the earth, and save the other Nephilim from their dark destiny. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

My Thoughts

The second installment in the Sweet Evil series was just pure awesomeness. These books just keep getting better and better.  I love Wendy Higgins writing, it takes me into the world of Anna Whitt and how she lives her life with this huge bargain on her shoulders.  I've always loved greek mythology, but this book turns it around making it unique.  Anna can relate to any girl, really if you have some troubles, I know I can.

Now that Anna and Kaidan are separated from each other, Anna is having a harder time living her normal life.  Her father comes back to her after six months to send her on a couple of missions.  She will be going with Kapono to all the places where they are sent.  First they go to Syria, England, and

New Zealand in hopes of creating a huge Neph army to destroy Pharzuph.  Along the way, Anna and Kapono have a moment but they instantly try to forget but it doesn't work.  Anna and Kaidan meet up after they gather enough people but that doesn't last long, when his father comes unexpectedly to town.

This book really got to me, there was so much going on.  I was sad that Anna and Kaidan were away from each other for so long.  They got back together and that made me happy again and hopeful that it will stay like that again.  Overall, I have to say this is one of my favorite books of 2013.  Everyone should definitely read it.  A great twist on greek mythology, which I love so much.  Keep up the good work Wendy.  :)

Oppression by Jessica Therrien

Posted by Savanna Finished Date: February 28, 2012 Source: For Review Format: Paperback Pages:346

Blurb: Elyse knows what it means to keep a secret. She's been keeping secrets her whole life. Two, actually. First, that she ages five times slower than average people, so that while she looks eighteen years old, she's closer to eighty. Second, that her blood has a mysterious power to heal. For Elyse, these things don't make her special. They make life dangerous. After the death of her parents, she's been careful to keep her secret as closely guarded as possible. Now, only one other person in the world knows about her age and ability. Or so she thinks. Elyse is not the only one keeping secrets. There are others like her all over the world, descendants of the very people the Greeks considered gods. She is one of them, and they have been waiting for her for a long time. Some are waiting for her to put an end to centuries of traditions that have oppressed their people under the guise of safeguarding them. Others are determined to keep her from doing just that. But for Elyse, the game is just beginning - and she's not entirely willing to play by their rules.

My Thoughts

The first book in the children of the gods series was purely amazing.  Since the first page the book got me hooked into the world of the descendents.  It was no other book that I read from mythology.  It was really different but in a good way. The plot and the characters were phenomanal, so different but so straight forward. The main character Elyse kept moving every five years from city to city to a different state. She aged much slower then the average human and her parents kept her a secret. When they died she was sent to a foster care home and she began fifth grade during her time there. A couple years later, she almost 90 but she really looks 18. Anna and her are still best friends, Elyse meets a boy from the coffee shop she lives near to. They get close and Elyse starts learning some things about herself that she didn't know. While reading those book it got me really captivated into Elyse world. The plot of the book was really interesting, there was some action which I always love in a book. Especially when Elyse and William are running away from someone, the only person who wanted to kill Elyse. But it turned around and that person got killed instead. The relationship between Elyse and William was so cute. Though they met for the first time after a couple of years, they became great friends automatically. Then they started to get closer and eventually they became a couple. He was also a descendant of the gods so he knew more about that then Elyse. Elyse met other people just like her and became friends with them also. Elyse visited Anna as often as she could because she was getting sick and she wanted to help with her healing power. But Anna said not to if it might kill her. Elyse didn't listen to Anna, and she almost got killed if it wasn't for William saving her life. Overall, this book was filled with action, some sad scenes and badass girl that wasn't afraid to do what sue was supposed to do in the first place. Anyone who loves romance, action, and a badass chick then you should read this book, you won't be disappointed.
